The privet mite, Brevipalpus obovatus Donnadieu, varies in color ranging from light orange to dark red with dark pigmentation.
Common host plants: This mite has been recorded from over 50 host plants. Most common are azalea, citrus, ligustrum sp., pittosporum and ivy.
