The azalea lace bug, Stephanitis pyrioides (Scott). Adults are 1/8 inch long, the wings have brown and black markings and the legs and antennae are light brown. They have two to three generations per year and overwinter as eggs oviposited in the leaves of evergreen plants. Both nymphs and adults withdraw sap from the leaves of azaleas, causing the upper surface to become a mottled grey color.
