Predaceous Stink Bug

While some stink bugs may be harmful, many are predaceous. A dark blue and orange-colored predatory species is common in Florida. Note the spines on the thorax ("shoulders"), a common characteristic of the beneficial stink bug. Stink bugs which feed on plants usually have rounded "shoulders" and long thin mouthparts in contrast to the stout short beaks of the beneficial species. Predaceous species feed on many insects, especially caterpillars.
