The vegetable leafminer, Liriomyza sativae Blanchard. The adult is a small black fly about 1/20 inch long and marked with yellow or gold patches. The larva is laterally compressed, legless and headless. It is yellowish and may have dark-colored intestinal contents. The larvae create a serpentine mine.
